Before opening a food premise, approval must be applied for and received from an Environmental Health Officer to ensure the premise meets all the requirements. Some of the requirements can be found in food protection - vital to your business - the BC Food Premise Regulations.
Plans and applications should be submitted to the EHO prior to construction of the food service establishment. If the establishment is pre-existing, plans and applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the proposed opening date to allow sufficient time for review, comment and inspection.
Submit the following package to the Environmental Health Officer for approval:
- Building plans
- Application
- Proposed menu
- Food safety plans
- Sanitation plans requirements and examples
- Copies of FoodSafe certificates for the owner and operator of the establishment
