Stuart Nechako Manor is divided into three units. All Resident rooms are on the main floor with units divided as follows: The Main Floor unit consists of 53 beds. Aspen house has a total of 12 beds, Birch Cedar house has a total of 27 beds plus one palliative care bed. Dogwood house has a total of 12 beds, and is a secured unit with beds specifically for dementia residents. We also have 2 Short Stay Beds used for Respite and Palliative needs.

Building amenities

The building features many amenities and services including an activities room, private dining rooms, indoor lounges and outdoor courtyards.  Additional amenities include a hair salon, media room/ board room.

Nail & foot care are also available on site.

Language, culture or religious affiliation

Persons living in a long-term care home are offered spiritual support through various religious and spiritual groups. Spiritual care may be provided through group meetings, one –to-one visits, sermons and music & song.

Accreditation status

Northern Health is accredited until 2022. Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services healthcare organizations provide their patients and clients based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada.

Type of accommodation

We have 53 publicly subsidized beds, 12 beds specifically for dementia residents and 2 Short Stay Beds are used for Respite and Palliative needs. Stuart Nechako manor has a combination of single and double occupancy rooms.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after tax income, with minimum and maximum rates set by the Ministry of Health Services. This rate covers the standard benefits provided by all long-term care homes. These costs are available on request or in the Long Term Care Home Resident and Family Handbook.

There are typical additional costs not covered by the daily rate.

Personal belongings and furniture

Basic furniture is provided includes a bed, night table, wardrobe or dresser. Residents can bring in additional small furniture items such as a chair, bookshelf/TV stand. Residents are encouraged to personalize their room by decorating it with pictures and things of importance.

Special recreational opportunities

Stuart Nechako Manor provides Recreational Therapy Services 5 days a week. Pastoral and Spiritual Services are provided by the Vanderhoof Ministerial Group with regular on site spiritual care. There is a Volunteer Program in place to accompany Residents on social outings, appointments, assist with feeding and provide hospice support. Hairdressing and barber services are available on site for a fee determined by the service provider.

Stuart Nechako Manor also provides an on-site integrated community adult day program, operating 3 days a week.

Motorized scooter policy

Must be assessed and approved by an Occupational Therapist.

Pet policy

NH has a pet visitation policy. Pets may visit as long as immunizations are up to date, pet is well mannered, on a leash in common areas and family is responsible for cleaning up after pet.

Smoking policy

All Northern Health facilities are smoke free. Residents are asked to smoke outside the facility in designated areas.

Safety/security features

Security checks are conducted nightly. Secured entry and exit into the building. Front entrance secure after business hours and weekends.

Visitor information

Families and loved ones are partners in care and are encouraged to visit and participate in many of the day-to-day activities.  

During flu season (typically December-March) all visitors need to wear a mask in our facilities if they haven't had a flu shot.

Neighbourhood/community amenities

Stuart Nechako Manor is located close to downtown Vanderhoof and is within walking distance to most community amenities. St. John Hospital is attached to Stuart Nechako Manor.
