Building description

Mackenzie long-term unit has 4 beds. Each single room has its own bathroom within the acute care ward. Rooms are to the left of the unit. Cable TV is provided.

Building amenities

Dedicated dining room with appropriate support chairs walk in shower room, bathtub with chair that elevates to assist use. Activity calendar planned in advance with the residents and care aid.

Foot care by LPN staff and local hairdresser comes in every 6 weeks free of charge.

Language, culture or religious affiliation

Persons living in a long-term care home are offered spiritual support through various religious and spiritual groups. Spiritual care may be provided through group meetings, one –to-one visits, sermons and music & song.

We have 4 publicly subsidized beds, 2 short stay beds used for respite and palliative needs.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after tax income, with minimum and maximum rates set by the Ministry of Health Services. This rate covers the standard benefits provided by all long-term care homes. These costs are available on request or in the Long Term Care Home Resident and Family Handbook.

There are typical additional costs not covered by the daily rate.

Personal belongings and furniture

Basic furniture is provided includes a bed, night table, wardrobe or dresser, and lamp. Residents can bring in additional small furniture items such as a chair, bookshelf/TV stand. Residents are encouraged to personalize their room by decorating it with pictures and things of importance.

Special recreational opportunities

Mackenzie District hospital provides recreational activities planned with care aid and residents this includes baking and cooking sessions, local legion come every Monday and provide bingo caller and prizes. Residents are able to call in local religious leaders for private sermon or to attend local churches family provide transport. We have youth volunteers that come every Monday to Friday 4-6 pm in term time. The plan activities and make decorations for the unit for up and coming events.

We plan to open adult day care center in April 2019 with 2 places initially open 7am to 7 pm.

Motorized scooter policy

Motorized Scooter storage is available on site.

Pet policy

NH has a pet visitation policy. Pets may visit as long as immunizations are up to date, pet is well mannered, on a leash in common areas and family is responsible for cleaning up after pet.

Smoking policy

All Northern Health facilities are smoke free. Residents are asked to smoke outside the facility in designated areas.

Safety/security features

 Access doors are locked and alarmed after 9 pm in the evening.

Visitor information

Families and loved ones are partners in care and are encouraged to visit and participate in many of the day-to-day activities.  

During flu season (typically December-March) all visitors need to wear a mask in our facilities if they haven't had a flu shot.

Open visiting and parking is free.

Neighbourhood/community amenities

Mackenzie District hospital is located within walking distance of indoor and outdoor mall, we have 4 restraints, rec center with swimming pool that has a lift for elders to get into the pool. Art and history museum public library located in the recreational center along with a restaurant.
