Hospital foundations and auxiliaries

The health care foundations and auxiliaries in the Northern Health region play a key role supporting the needs of our hospitals, health care centres, and health services. Each foundation, society and auxiliary is made up of a board of community leaders, countless volunteers, and in some cases a professional staff of fund raisers and support services.

The foundations and auxiliaries support patient programs and services in their communities by raising funds to purchase vital medical, diagnostic, and surgical equipment. They work tirelessly to meet the challenge of limited health care budgets and increasing demands for services. Thanks to the generosity of community members, businesses and service clubs, health care experiences are enhanced for patients and their families.

Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation - City of Terrace

Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation - City of Terrace

The Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation has been supporting Mills Memorial Hospital (newly named Ksyen Regional Hospital) and Terraceview Lodge as a registered charity since 1988, and has purchased over $8 million dollars of medical equipment with the support of businesses, community groups and individuals.

Purchases such as an Ophthalmic Surgical Microscope and an ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat) surgical StealthStation™ Imaging Navigation System in recent years have contributed to expanding and enhancing medical services at our new regional hospital, for patients from as far away as Haida Gwaii, north to the Yukon border and east to Dease Lake and Burns Lake!

The foundation took on their biggest challenge to date in 2022 to raise $14.5 M to bring a first-ever Tier 3- Neonatal Intensive Care/Special Care Nursery to our Northwest. The time was right to add this to the new-build replacement hospital. The NICU is built and outfitted! Advanced NICU training for local nurses started April 2025 with a hoped-for opening in spring 2026!

Because of the efforts from the foundation, 25 medical specialists now call Terrace home and have the technology to offer the best healthcare services available in the Northwest! This significantly reduces the costly need for patients to travel to larger centers like Prince George or Vancouver for diagnosis and treatment, keeping more patients and their families CLOSER TO HOME!

Together we can make a difference!
