Physical activity

Regular physical activity can help prevent and/or manage many chronic diseases including heart disease and stroke, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and several cancers. Physical activity supports improved mental health and well-being, and can help manage symptoms of depression and anxiety. In addition to physical and mental health benefits, getting active helps build connections with others and the community, improving quality of life by adding life to our years.

The physical activity program works with community partners and health service providers to improve the health, wellness, and quality of life of Northerners by supporting and promoting increased access and opportunities for all Northerners to be physically active where they live learn, work, and play. For support with setting and reaching your own physical activity goals, speak to a physical activity professional at HealthLink BC.
