These alerts are posted to provide Northern BC residents with information on how to protect your family's well-being and avoid illness due to a local health situation, including (but not limited to): an outbreak of a communicable disease like influenza, gastrointestinal illness or C-difficile; unsafe water conditions; a food recall, or; swimming advisories based on algae blooms.

Hepatitis A virus may have been present in any Western Family or unbranded fresh cut ready-to-eat pineapple products sold at Save-On Foods and Overwaitea in BC, on or after August 11th, 2017, with a best before date of August 19th. more
The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is warning consumers that Hepatitis A virus has been detected in a sample of Western Family brand fresh pineapple chunks sold in ready-to-go cups. Please see the link above for details. If you live in the north and have consumed contaminated product, please visit the emergency rooms in Terrace (Mills Memorial Hospital), Fort St. John or Prince George (UHNBC) to obtain the Hepatitis A vaccine. You can also enquire at your local pharmacy if they have the vaccine in stock. Additional products may be identified over the next few days, please check the BCCDC web site for the latest information on who should receive hepatitis A vaccine. more
