2010 - 2011 Aboriginal Health Initiative Program

- The Aboriginal Health Initiative Program (AHIP) is a short-term grant administrated by the Aboriginal Health office at Northern Health.
- AHIP is designed to assist communities to meet their needs in developing their health initiatives. The types of projects can include: wholistic wellness; mental health; addictions; youth, Elders, men's and/or women's wellness; Indian Residential School; chronic disease management and education; HIV/AIDS awareness; suicide awareness and prevention; grief and loss; or a combination of the above. The traditional culture and practices can be incorporated into the projects.
- 2010 - 2011Grant would have a start date of April 1, 2010 and an end date of March 31, 2013.

Background:
Since 2002, Aboriginal Health, Northern Health has administrated the AHIP program for about $6.4 million for 196 projects specifically targeted for Aboriginal Health. In the 2010 - 2011 fiscal year, the AHIP will be in its eighth year. |
Eligibility:
The NH region includes: Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), north to the Yukon border, east to the Alberta border, south to the Robson Valley, Quesnel and Alexandria.
- All First Nations
- Bands and Health Centres
- Aboriginal, Inuit, and Metis organizations who provides health and social services and are located in the Northern Health (NH) region
